HOSTEL LIFE:: pilot episode::( A mini Series)

Now that i'm about to end yet another chapter of my life...my hostel life that is...i can safely and accurately write about my hostel life...it's different from the regular stuff that one reads about hosteler...our hostel was one of a kind in the country for any UG course. i say this because i have friends who too are hostelers but none are as privileged as i am. :)

Well the reason i say this is because the first 1 n 1/2 floors of our hostel are for the girls and the rest 4n 1/2 floors are for us boys..also what makes it special is the fact that unlike regular hostels that have people from the same course or study..like an engineering hostel will only have engineers but here at my hostel we have a cosmopolitan atmosphere so to say as we have students in their junior college( that's the XI and XII), people pursuing Arts, Science and Commerce, the engineers of course, even people from polytechnic, management students to name a few...boy was our founder way ahead of his time when he thought about such a hostel...

Like everything in life there is also a flip side to this...the two sides  of the coin as we say....because of this diversity we have a kind of a social hierarchy in place...the engineers won't talk to the poly people...the poly people will do what they want as they are the majority...(after all it's called K.J.Somaiya Polytechnic Hostel).
thats leaves us the commerce and other courses student being seen as miscellaneous( Oh yes it's true thats what it says on our night attendance register).

it's lot of fun living in such a mixed up environment...We do have our share of some very stupid rules like it's against the rules to interact with girls..i'm like you should have thought about it when you planned it in the first place...kya faltoo giri hai yeh...anyhow this rule seems to have taken a beating... : P

Anyways we have competition in the form of the Management Hostel (meant for Management students). If they have all the good looking girls then we have the best food in the campus..so on and so forth...but whatever it may be campus life just rocks...saala ek dum baapness hain...

Also the fact that we are among the largest campus under the mumbai university helps....funny thing though there was no CCTV, no camera of any sorts in the entire campus until sometime back...there is so so much to write about my college, campus, hostel....that's the reason it's called a MINI SERIES...i'll be writing down every now and then....thats why this particular post is just a pilot to a whole bunch of others coming up....

*The reason why this post does not have any pic....well thats because i want the readers to read rather than just go through the post.*

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!

This last week i celebrated my birthday...on the 9th of October...and boy was it fun...an honest confession i'm still trying to get a hold on all that happened...starting off my brother gives me one of the most interesting gifts or gifts in general that he has given me till date. Then on i day a perfectly normal day...trust me it's a rarity with me..also an interesting thing two of my friends share the same birthday...it was fun to reply "SAME TO YOU" rather then the usual "thank you thank you..."

Birthday's are special for a reason...it's that one day of the year when no matter how good or bad or down right bad ass you are, people are still good to you...n thats a personal observation....my roomies n other hostel mates planned a surprise party at midnight...cake n all.....sahi tha...

in the morning after my college exam my friends bought me yet another cake..(the pic above is of the same). it was fun....the irony being there was more on my face n clothes n hair n where all, then what we ate in totality.

For the whole day i felt special...friends were calling...both new and old forgotten ones as well...and i think that's the beauty of birthdays...it just makes you feel special all over...i love birthdays...

A funny thing though...it just struck me...why does everyone says "HAPPY BIRTHDAY"
it's not my BIRTH-DAY....RATHER i was born on this particular day...so rather then saying "happy birthday!!" ONE SHOULD SAY "HAPPY ANNIVERSARY" just like we say for rest of the other such happy occasions...makes sense doesn't it..

My take.

Image representing Mark Zuckerberg as depicted...Image via CrunchBase
I'm a management student so anything thats even slightly related to management grabs my attention.
i recently read a great piece on "The Social Network" the movie based on  mark zuckerberg (the founder of Facebook). In the movie it's being suggested that he copied the idea from fellow students...big deal!!!!

here's why....well according to me the idea alone in useless....
what makes it special is the execution of the idea.

got a great idea for a new website???know a sure way to improve community news??? have a tool in your mind that could revolutionize the web? GREAT. but, really, you've got nothing.
Until you do something to make your idea reality, your ideas are of no worth to anyone, save for your personal enterainment.
hey, it's fun to daydream about all that wonderful stuff you could do( and buy!)on that future day when your is idea is implemented and becomes a hit. but only fools live in daydreams.
In the real world, rewards goes to those who implement ideas.
so dream all you want. but never, ever stop with the dream. Apply the skills of an entrepreneur to test that dream-to determine whether it is feasible. Research the market, gather data and explore how you'd make your dream a reality.
If u can't see how your dream could be real after all that hard work, let it go. Dream up another idea, then test it.
But if you think your idea is feasible , then respect it - and yourself-enough to implement it.
Waiting for someone to write you a big cheque  shouldn't be your first step, either. Hoping for cash to fall from the sky isn't an execution plan. learn how to boot-strap your idea to reality. If it's a viable idea, and you've shown that it can draw an audience-the money to scale up will find you eventually.

Fear-- it's not always such a bad thing.

Anyone reading this will surely agree that they must have in the past or even today fear something or the other...but they'll also agree that people around them must have also told them to get over their fear...well i for one say that FEAR is GOOD...it keeps us safe...

i've been in fear for something or the other or rather i'm still in fear of many things, but it got me thinking that fear is not how most or almost everyone would describe it....it's not like i have regarding dogs...fear could of failure..fear could also be of not being accepted..i've have a female friend who apparently can't study coz she has no fear for our up coming exams..strange as it may be to you i find a rationale in it as well...i've feared maths as a subject throughout my life...And i still do...am i ashamed of it ....hell no..in fact i like it.

an old friend of mine texted me something very interesting she said "if it's all already palnned and will work according to "destiny"...then why should we pray"...then she went on to explain that may be god had written it out in our destiny that whatever we shall pray it would come true....i bought this topic up because many a times i hear people worshiping because they fear god....god is not someone to be feared..Do you fear your father. then why fear the almighty whose is father to us all....

another female friend fears that being seen in public with me would ruin my life because her friends don't have such high regards for me...well this one i gotta agree but it could be because of fear of being judged...

anyways what i'm saying is fear is not necessarily something to be worried of...it's something to be aware of and  work at it....
WE HAVE NOTHING TO FEAR BUT FEAR IT SELF!!!
